Sometime a little long winded and tedious. Typical long suffering maiden and consealed identity, and virtue wins out over hardship story, set during the War of the Roses. Outside of a few names and locations, could have been anytime, any place. Sort of a midevil "Pamela" with holy overtones. Not bawdy. An easy read for that period.
This was a awesome read, I was hook from start to finish. Excellent job
Although it appears that Charlotte Yonge has written many books, I had not heard of her until I got this for my . The prose seems disjointed sometimes but it does not really detract from the story. This story is about a young girl during the days of the Wars of the Roses, disfigured by an accident, who learns that a true heart and kindness can win the day and the love. I enjoyed the point of view of a non-royal for whom Tudors and Plantagenets mean little in her daily life. I have found many other of Ms Yonge's books available for and so have purchased many more.
